Reports of New USCIS Adjudication Hold

We are seeing reports that USCIS is placing a hold on applications currently pending with the agency while it implements yet another new vetting process. This hold appears to impact Adjustment of Status (AOS) and asylum applications, but other applications may be effected. USCIS has not made any official announcement, but AILA has discovered that this hold is due to a new security vetting process that will require applicants to resubmit fingerprints. AILA Doc. No. 26042805 (4/28/26). We will provide further updates once more information is provided on the extent of this hold.

Update: CBS is now reporting on USCIS’ new enhanced security checks, and the resultant adjudication hold on pending Adjustment of Status green card applications, U.S. citizenship applications, and other filings. It appears that USCIS officers will be sending applicant fingerprints taken before April 27, 2026 back to the FBI for this extended screening. As such, applicants should not be required to undergo another biometrics appointment. USCIS stated that any delay due “should be brief and resolved shortly.”
