I-94 Fee Increases On Sept. 30, 2025
The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” signed by President Trump in July 2025 increased the filing fee required for USCBP to issue an I-94 record at land border ports-of-entry (POE) from $6 to $30.
An I-94 record is the principle document that governs the length of time an individual may remain in the U.S. under their applicable visa classification, and is generally issued at the time the person enters the U.S.
USCBP will start charging the new I-94 fee on Sept. 30, 2025. (USCBP does not charge I-94 fees at air or sea ports of entry.)
How will this fee change impact TN visa workers?
Canadian Citizens:
Canadian citizens filing TN applications at land border POEs will now pay an $80 filing fee (the new I-94 filing fee of $30 plus the TN application fee of $50 required under 8 CFR 103.7 (d) (11)).
Spouses and children applying for TD dependent status will pay the new I-94 filing fee of $30.
Mexican Citizens:
Mexican citizens with TN / TD visa stamps issued by the U.S. Embassy who are seeking initial entry to the U.S. at a land border POE will pay the new I-94 filing fee of $30.
USCIS Filings:
This new I-94 filing fee will not have any impact on I-129 petitions filed with USCIS seeking TN visa status.
USCIS has its own set of filing fees associated with TN I-129 petitions.
However, if a Canadian citizen obtains approval of a TN I-129 petition that requires entry (activation) at the U.S. border, then they will need to pay the new I-94 filing fee of $30 when seeking initial entry to the U.S. at a land POE.
